What if the alternative resource of Silesia is not coal, but instead creative thought?
Artists (both visual artists and musicians) from around Katowice are taking over the Polish scene.
Minus One is located in the undergrounds of Rondo Sztuki – the Academy’s gallery. There is something buried within the foundations of this institution.
In July 1999, mining operations at the Katowice Coal Mine ceased (120 million tons of coal were extracted). Paradoxically, despite the closure of such a powerful industrial base, Katowice is developing more intensively than ever before, harnessing its potential. What if the true resource was never coal, but something else?
During the freshly commenced extraction under Rondo Sztuki (the gallery of the Katowice Academy of Fine Arts) in July 2023, I stumbled upon a deposit that may shed new light on research in this area.
What if there are more such deposits? What other primitive forms might they contain?
In July 1999, the exploitation of the Katowice Coal Mine ended (over 120 million tons of coal were extracted in total). Paradoxically, despite the closure of such a massive industrial base, Katowice is growing more intensely than ever before. This raises the question – was the true resource of Katowice ever coal, or something else?
In July 2023, during conservation work under Rondo Sztuki (the gallery of the Katowice Academy of Fine Arts), an unrecognized ore was discovered that could shed new light on research in this area. What if there are more deposits? We have begun extraction.
